Slam In is an open-source social platform for poetry and everything related to this art. Since poetry is usually relegated to an intimate art, this platform would like to help artists show their work and readers, listeners, viewers, experience poetry in every shape and form. If you're interested in poetry, feel free to roam around and find what you like best: you can read poems, view videos, find live and online events or debate on forums. If you're an artist, you can create your page and host your work there, so that other people can discover you and appreciate your art. If you're an organizer, you can create events and build an audience for your shows. If you're part of an artistic collective or organization, or if you own or manage one or more venues, you can create a group and manage everything from there, so that people can follow all your activities, and your collaborators can communicate more easily.
No, Slam In is a home for every poetry form!
We called it Slam In because we witnessed that the slam movement gave poetry a new audience, a new energy, a wave of awareness and participation.
As this platform aims to be, we saw poetry slam as a gateway to poetry for a lot of people. We aim to help people discover new art, but we wish everyone will go further, will look for something else and will discover something they'll love and could never dream of finding.
Poetry is everywhere, everything is poetry, here you can find all poetry related events, content, people and much more.
If you're just a poetry reader, lover or you're just looking for events in your area, Slam In can help you find what you like and discover more. By subscribing, you'll be able to follow your favourite artists, directly chat with them and support them for their work, discover venues near you where you can find events.
If you're a poet or an artist in general, in Slam In you can look for events and request to participate, you can publish poems, videos, articles and pictures that will make people know you better. You'll be able to attend courses and, in the near future, publish your own; you'll be able to receive support from your fans and keep them updated about your events and news.
If you're an organizer, Slam In gives you all the tools you need in order to keep track of your events, your participants, your audience and your venues. If you manage a group or an organization, communication will be easier and essential on Slam In.
Essentially, being part of this community is the best way to stay in touch with poetry in every form, so join this community to make it thrive.
On the right top corner, there's a button Register, and if you click on it, you'll be able to access the registration form. We'll need just the basic details, in order to give you the best experience while surfing the platform. Your data are stored and kept safe, we'll never share or sell your data with anyone. Every content uploaded on the platform is licensed under Creative Commons licensing, so you're the owner of your art, we don't and will never own your work.
Subscription is and always be free!
Poetry is art, art is everything, here you can do everything you want in order to make your art be known, or know new art.
Please, keep in mind that everything we do as humans, must follow just one simple rule: respect.
Respect other members, and we'll respect you; fail to respect other members, and you'll no longer deserve our complete respect, and we'll try our best to manage the situation.
Since this platform is made by the community, for the community, the community's interest is to try and live happily and freely, so try to be polite, try to be constructive, try to bring joy to other people (or helpful sadness, we know how poetry works :), but still, something useful), try to listen and learn before preaching and teaching, try to understand that this is not a top-down structure, everyone here's the same, this is a horizontal community, and since nobody's superior, don't feel so, don't think you are, and don't act like anyone should owe you something.
Respect calls for respect, so:
no fascism, no violence, no sexism, no abuse, no religion proselitism, no child-pornography, no explicit content without a warning, no money related abuse, no sexual or gender related -isms.
We're humans, so we can think and feel, please be like we feel everyone should be: pacifist (if not anarcho-pacifist).
Open-source means that everyone can read the source code of this platform (here you can find the whole project) and help improve it, or copy it and make whatever with it, for whatever purpose.
We believe that knowledge and art should be free and accessible to everyone, that's why we believe that the same home where we want poetry and art to live, should be free and accessible to everyone.
Free doesn't mean easy or effortless, we managed to have enough money to pay for the creation of the platform and it's maintenance, we had to create a firm, in order not to have financial problems, but we'll try to become a non-profit organization as soon as possible (we'll follow the Open Collective exit strategy, instead of going for profit, we'll give back to the community).
PeerTube is an open-source and federated platform where people can upload and share videos. It's not owned by a capitalist entity, so the community owns it and chose it instead of other private and capitalist platforms.
Your content will be available as long as the community will be able to maintain the server(s) where videos are stored. This service comes at a cost (other platforms can offer free hosting because they'll sell your data for a profit, we won't), but the community will try to cover the expenses in order to keep it free for everyone. The 3 videos limit is a necessary comrpomise towards this costs, it's a simple restriction but a useful one, it will help you give the correct value to the content you post. If you wish to post more than 3 videos, you can always subscribe for a membershipl plan, where you'll be able to upload more videos and access other premium services.
Even if we believe that people are less important than ideas, we would like to thank Davide Mazzitelli (you can find him inside the platform) for his immense, quidk and wonderful work. Everything you see, click and use, is made by him with Laravel (an open-source development platform for PHP).
The platform is owned by Slam In It OÜ, an Estonian company who aims to maintain it as long as possible, as free as possible and as horizontal as possible.
We believe nobody should own anything or anyone, so we try to be among the few ones who prefer doing than saying they did.
Slam In is owned by you and everyone in it, be kind and use it carefully so that everyone can enjoy it.
If you wish to help in some way or sustain the platform, just write to us or donate money to the Sladmin account.
Even if the platform costed some money and maintaining it will cost a fair amount of money (you can check out everything on the Costs page), Slam In It OÜ aims to cover all expenses through subscriptions and transaction fees. Every service we offer will be as free as possible, if we'll need to charge some money, believe us, it's because we cannot absorbe its cost. We happily spend some money so that the community can thrive, but we hope the community will understand that nothing, sadly, is free and other platforms gain money through other malicious ways.
Trying to be as transparent as possible, our aim is to give everyone the best experience.
In order to free us from capitalism, we have to act for the best, for the common interest, to improve without exploiting people and natural resources.
We think that money cannot pay for the joy we felt experiencing art and awe for nature wonders, so why should you?
